I have been a geologist in academia for all of my career. In 2004, I joined the University of Derby (UK) as a Senior Lecturer in Geology. I retired from full-time teaching in 2018, but my interests in geology and geoscience education continue. I was formerly a Senior Lecturer in Geology at Oxford Polytechnic, which became Oxford Brookes University in 1992. My Interests include sedimentology, volcanology, regional geology and geological fieldwork. I have a particular interest in geoscience education and computer-aided learning, and in the geology of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, southern France, including the relationship between geology and wine.. The virtual-geology.info web site started as a joint project between Dr Paul Guion and myself in 2004.

I have a particular interest in the use of computer-aided learning in the earth sciences:

• Virtual fieldwork project supported by former national subject centre (LTSN-GEES) and Brookes Virtual. [Article published in PLANET, 2002: pdf]
  
  
• A set of interactive virtual field trips to sedimentary environments, as part of the nationally-funded FILTER project (2003).
  
  
• I delivered workshops on e-learning and other topics on behalf of the former national subject centre for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (LTSN-GEES)
