Key Largo Dry Rocks are a shallow water part of the barrier reef off Key Largo.

At bottom left, dead coral is encrusted by red calcareous algae. These algae, which have a rigid calcite skeleton, are important reef builders. In fact, what we know as modern coral reefs are more accurately described as coral/red algal reefs.
An area of loose carbonate sand is seen at bottom right (light colour).
