The Vignevieille Limestone and Clay

The Vignevieille Limestone and Clay

Age: Dano-Maastrichtian (65 My.)

Thickness: 10 to 20 metres

Fossils: Dinosaur eggs, gastropods and bivalves in the lower limestone strata.

Description of the unit:
It is two massive limestone beds separated by a marl horizon.
The very variable lithofacies of this formation accounts for a lacustrine and palustrine (marshy lake margin) origin.
