This marl (a fine-grained calcareous
mudstone) contains interesting structures.
- Each structure is a cube
with hollow faces.
- These cubes are now made
of sediment. They are pseudomorphs replacing crystals
of a soluble mineral.
- This mineral was halite.
What is the chemical composition of halite, and what does its presence
tell us about the conditions when this rock was formed?
