Here, we are looking down on the bedding surface of fine sandstones at the top of the channel sandstone seen in image M27-01. The sandstones contain current ripple cross-lamination, which appears as lines running from top to bottom of the picture. The laminae dip to the right, indicating current ripples which migrated to the right. These sandstones were deposited in a rather low energy part of the river system. The small white spots and lines may represent the rootlets of plants which later grew in the sediment.
