The cliff section shows a coarsening-upward section from mudstones through parallel-bedded sandstones to a coal seam (roll the cursor over the image to see its position), and finally a cross-bedded sandstone at the top of the cliff. Starting at the bottom of the cliff, think about what processes and environment each unit might represent, and then about how the whole sequence developed. |
