Let's take a closer look at the lithology in Unit G3.

H is another example of a weathered pumice fragment with highly elongated vesicles. A lot of the pumice in Unit G3 is of this type, though it is not obvious in this view.

Sparse, dark, non-vesicular lithic or glassy fragments, like the one at I, occur within Unit G3. They are mainly phonolitic in composition.

Look closely at the area round J. Here we can see evidence of post-depositional alteration, with growth of crystalline material into voids where pumice clasts have weathered out.
